Road Closing for New Bridge in McDowell County
ASHEVILLE – A bridge on Old Toms Creek Road will be young again.
A contractor for the Department of Transportation closed Old Toms Creek Road in McDowell County on Monday, Oct. 24, to start building a bridge over Old Toms Creek.
The two-lane bridge will be built by Clark Ledbetter Grading and Hauling during the fall and winter and should be finished by April 2017 at a cost of $372,000.
A marked short detour is in place to guide motorists around the construction. The 2.4-mile detour takes traffic to U.S. 221/N.C. 226 and Toms Creek Road.
Bridge projects like this one north of Marion are underway across the state are a key part of Governor McCrory’s 25-year Vision for transportation in North Carolina to enhance safety and better connect North Carolinians to jobs, education, healthcare and recreation.
