On Tuesday, February 21st, 2017, IPDC held the kick-off of the Isothermal Bicycle Plan project by hosting the first meeting of the project steering committee. The Isothermal Bicycle Plan covers Cleveland, McDowell, Polk and Rutherford Counties, and will provide a framework for NCDOT and local governments to enhance bicycling as a mode of transportation for both residents and visitors, improving access, connectivity and safety. Additional goals will include promoting healthy and active lifestyles, diversifying the regional economy, developing tourism resources and promoting the region as a destination. The Plan will identify key routes, connections and opportunities, as well as prioritizing areas for future implementations.
Alta Planning + Design been hired as the consultant for this project by IPDC. The steering committee will be meeting on a regular basis, and will rotate around to each of the four counties covered under this plan. The goal is to have the Isothermal Bike Plan completed in 2018.
